The secretory immunologic system of fowl. IV. Serum and salivary immunoglobulins in normal, agammaglobulinemic and dysgammaglobulinemic chickens

The secretory immunologic system of fowl. IV. Serum and salivary immunoglobulins in normal, agammaglobulinemic and dysgammaglobulinemic chickens

International Archives of Allergy and Applied Immunology 46(6): 834-841

Pilocarpine-induced oral secretions from normal chickens contained IgA, IgY, and usually some IgM. IgA was usually the predominant immunoglobulin. About half the neonatally bursectomized birds lacked IgA in this secretion, and these birds did not compensate with increased IgY or IgM secretion. Chicks receiving anti- mu or F(ab')2anti- mu prior to hatch and which were bursectomized at hatch had a total lack of secretory IgA in the oral secretions.
