The studies on the specific leaf area of forest trees (II). The effects of RLI , season and shading on the specific leaf area in young Birch (Betula platyphylla Sukatchev var. japonica Miq.) stand

The studies on the specific leaf area of forest trees (II). The effects of RLI , season and shading on the specific leaf area in young Birch (Betula platyphylla Sukatchev var. japonica Miq.) stand

Journal of the Japanese Forestry Society 54(6): 184-191

In a further series of studies the effects of RLI, season, and shading on SLA (specific leaf area) were measured in young shaded and unshaded model B.p. var. japonica stands ca. every two weeks from spring to autumn 1970. Values of the regression coefficients between RLI and SLA were obtained by applying the regression equation log SLA = -b log RLI + log a. The two coefficients were analysed in relation to changes in season and the decrease in light incident on the stands.
