In trials in which sorghum was cut 8 times from 6 July to 13 Aug., the 1st cut taking place 38 days after sowing and the regrowth cut 3 times during 25 Aug.-14 Sept., leaf contents of DM, lignin and Si increased with growth stage, but there was little change in the other chemical constituents. DM, lignin and CF contents of stems and sheaths increased during growth, but CP, fat and ash contents decreased. Stem and sheath DM comprised about 66% of the total plant DM after the boot stage.
