The viable weed seed content of some tropical agricultural soils

Journal of Applied Ecology 11(2): 669-677

The viable weed seed content of the surface soil at 78 sites in the upper Belize Valley, British Honduras, averaged 6488 seeds/m2 and included 54 species A few species from the buried seed population showed a spatial association with the extant weed vegetation. In general, viable seed density and species numbers showed little relationship to field age, usage or soil conditions.
