Top flagging of Pinus radiata seedlings - symptoms and control

Top flagging of Pinus radiata seedlings - symptoms and control

Technical Note, Kenya Forest Department (142): 4 + 3 fig.

Describes a nursery disease of P. radiata, observed on one-year-old tubed seedlings at Turbo nursery in western Kenya in 1972 and distinct from the terminal crook disease recorded at several nurseries and described separately In 'top-flagging', the top 1/3 of the seedling withers and droops, and the plant subsequently dies. The disease is attributed to Phoma exigua, and is apparently aggravated by heavy rainfall.
