Treatment of hypochromic anaemia in horses with iron injected parenterally

Treatment of hypochromic anaemia in horses with iron injected parenterally

Revista de Medicina Veterinaria, Brazil 9(3): 206-214

Following preliminary trials of two forms of treatment in thoroughbreds, show jumpers and stud horses, a detailed study of the treatment of 15 thoroughbreds was undertaken. They were all affected with hypochromic anaemia in varying degrees resulting from nuttalliosis, infectious anaemia, helminthosis or physical exhaustion. A complex iron hydroxide Na saccharate in stable colloidal form, only slightly ionizable, was used in 5 ml ampoules, each containing 100 mg Fe.
