Use of nitrogen and potassium reserves during growth of grape vine cuttings

Use of nitrogen and potassium reserves during growth of grape vine cuttings

Vitis 12(3): 207-213

Single node cuttings of dormant grapevine canes were analysed for the relative amounts of soluble and insoluble N, and of K, in the bark and wood, node and internode. The amounts of these constituents used for the growth of the new shoot and roots were determined by growing cuttings in nutrient solutions either complete or lacking in N or K. When cuttings were grown for 10 weeks with no added N, 87% of the soluble N and 43% of the insoluble N was used for new growth.
