Value of the specific distinction between Ascaris lumbricoides Linne 1758 and Ascaris suum Goeze 1782

Scanning electron microscopy of the heads of Ascaris lumbricoides and A. suum revealed differences in the shape of the lips and in the size and shape of the denticles on the central part of the lips. The axial truncation of the lips showed a well-inflexed sine on each lip in A. suum but one sine only on the dorsal lip in A. lumbricoides. The denticles were small and pointed in the latter and larger and more abraded in the former species.
