Thirty-six bullocks were divided into 6 groups of 6, 3 of which were fed to appetite on diets with 9.5, 11.0 or 12.5% protein. The other 3 groups were given 36 mg zeranol, a resorcylic acid lactone, implanted subcutaneously at the base of the ear on days 1 and 84 of the 169-day trial, and fed on the same 3 diets.
