A comparison of the nutrient content of formic acid treated direct cut grass legume silage, wilted grass legume silage and corn silage (+ urea)

Three groups of 20 Holstein cows were offered free choice of silage of 1st-cut cocksfoot with ladino clover, direct-cut and ensiled with formic acid 8.5 lb/ton fresh herbage added at chopping; 1st-cut cocksfoot with ladino clover ensiled wilted in the field; or maize silage with urea 10 lb/ton. The cows also got measured amounts of grass hay and concentrate.
