A statistical analysis of demand for beef in the Western State of Nigeria 1961-1972

A statistical analysis of demand for beef in the Western State of Nigeria 1961-1972

Journal of Rural Economics and Development 9(1): 3-13

The demand for beef in the Western State is analyzed. The downward trend in beef consumption is shown to have been due to a fall in supply, resulting from the poor management of the nomadic Fulanis, the droughts and the increased consumption of beef by the people of Northern Nigeria. The demand estimates for beef were made using data for a period of 12 years. The linear function was used to predict the per caput consumption of beef by 1980.
