A study of inheritance in various intraspecific crosses in plum
The following conclusions were drawn from various crosses carried out during a varietal improvement programme: (1) round fruits are usually dominant over oblong fruits; (2) dark epidermis is dominant over light; (3) fruit weight of the progeny is usually intermediate between that of the parents; (4) certain varieties, such as Anna Spath, when crossed with other varieties, transmit their growth-period characteristics to the majority of the progeny; (5) flowering date is usually intermediate between that of the parents; and (6) susceptibility to Sclerotinia laxa on flowers and young shoots is dominant.
