Absorption of fertilizer and soil nitrogen by rice plants under the various cultural conditions of different paddy fields. III. Relationship between kinds of rice seedlings and absorption of nitrogen by rice plants and general discussion

Absorption of fertilizer and soil nitrogen by rice plants under the various cultural conditions of different paddy fields. III. Relationship between kinds of rice seedlings and absorption of nitrogen by rice plants and general discussion

Tohoku Journal of Agricultural Research 26(2): 61-70

Variations between the two study locations in the time at which soil ammonium-N disappeared, the pattern of seedling N uptake, and recovery of N in the plant were ascribed to differences in initial N content in the soil solution, the mineralisation of soil organic N, and plant ammonium-N uptake. Large seedlings (5 to 6-leaf stage) took up N earlier than small seedlings (3-leaf stage) at one location only.
