The SD between milk fat determinations by the Milko-Tester III and Gerber methods (bulk milk) ranged for 100 replicates each from 0.049 to 0.064 depending on type of EDTA and use or otherwise of preservative. For analogous tests on milks of individual cows, the SD range was 0.078-0.1. K2Cr2O7 was found a satisfactory preservative, but formalin was unsuitable.
