Adaptations to ambient temperature in growing pigs

Piglets were weaned at 8-10 days of age and littermate pairs were reared in individual cages at an ambient temperature of 25 deg or 35 deg C to 8 weeks of age. Pigs reared at 35 deg had longer extremities and less hair than those at 25 deg even though body weights were similar. On exposure to 45 deg , pigs reared at 25 deg increased rectal temperature twice as quickly as their littermates.
