The distribution of the bending moments and the membrane stresses after buckling were computed, and the cause of failure and the ultimate buckling strength in compression were estimated. Before buckling the membrane stress had a uniform distribution, but after buckling the compressive stress near the vertical edges increased and that at the centre decreased, while the membrane stress near the upper and lower edges became a compressive stress and that near the centre became a tensile stress.
