Application of Nosema fumiferanae and Pleistophora schubergi against the spruce budworm, Choristoneura fumiferana

Application of Nosema fumiferanae and Pleistophora schubergi against the spruce budworm, Choristoneura fumiferana

Abstracts of papers read at the 5th International Congress on Protozoology, New York City, 26 June 2 July, 1977: 323

Nosema fumiferanae and Pleistophora schubergi were tested against Choristoneura fumiferana in Ontario during the summer of 1976. White spruce (Picea glauca) and balsam fir (Abies balsamea) were sprayed with approximately 2.5 X 1010 spores/tree when spruce budworm larvae were primarily in the 4th and 5th instar. 18 days after spraying levels of N. fumiferanae in larvae collected from sprayed spruce were 46.4%, from balsam fir 66.2% and controls 26.6 and 34.2% respectively.
