Approaches to minimising water usage and wastes in dairy plants. Selected paper from the Warsaw seminar (IDF) on dairy effluents - October 1976

Approaches to minimising water usage and wastes in dairy plants. Selected paper from the Warsaw seminar (IDF) on dairy effluents - October 1976

Milk Industry 79(3): 8-10

Measures that may be taken to reduce the use of water and the amount of effluent generated in dairy factories are discussed under the headings of good management practices (maintenance operations, tanker and can reception, processing, packaging and handling of products, and cleaning and sanitizing waste water handling), engineering practices (plant design, equipment design, and process and systems improvement) and computer modelling for evaluating the effect of suggested changes in processing as well as the impact of municipal sewer use surcharges and limits imposed, and assisting in the development of suitable strategies to cope with these problems.
