1. Frant guineapigs from about 30 days pregnant were fed on commercial pelleted control diet with fat 3%, or the same diet with 20% of either maize oil or beef dripping and 10% casein added to keep the proportion of energy from protein the same in all 3 diets. The young were killed at birth or were given the mother's diet to age 13 weeks. Food intake was recorded for the 13th week.
