Breeding apple for resistance to Venturia inaequalis

Breeding apple for resistance to Venturia inaequalis

Mikologiya i fitopatologiya 8(6): 505-509

The results are given of a study of promising elite seedlings under conditions of artificial and natural infection. The highest percentage of resistant seedlings was found in families obtained using the resistant variety Suvorovets, especially when it was used as the maternal form. The segregation ratios indicated that resistance is polygenically controlled. Resistance was usually dominant. In the clone Malus floribunda '821' a gene for resistance to several races was found.
