Breeding for resistance to leaf and plant hoppers of rice

Of 1150 varieties tested under field conditions, and 260 lines and 15 varieties with resistance to Pachidiplosis oryzae tested under greenhouse conditions, 164, 52 and 3 (Vijaya, Ptb. 21 and W1263 (Eswarakorra X MTU15)), respectively, were resistant to Nephotettix impicticeps. Of 1288 varieties tested under field conditions, 70 were resistant to Sogatella furcifera. Of 36 lines from Assam tested in the greenhouse, 6064, 7138, and 10340 were resistant to S. furcifera.
