Chemical control of sorghum shootfly, Atherigona varia soccata Rond and sorghum stem borer Chilo partellus (= zonellus) Swinhoe on hybrid sorghum CSH-1

Nine insecticides were tested in the field in Maharashtra, India, in 1969-70 for the control of Atherigona soccata Rond. (varia soccata) and Chilo partellus (Swinh.) on sorghum. Against A. soccata, soil application of 10% phorate granules at a rate to give 1.5 kg active ingredients/ha proved the most effective, with whorl applications of 2% endrin granules and 5% monocrotophos granules, affording good control. Monocrotophos had some phytotoxic effects.
