Comparative study of microclimate and animal performance in five pig fattening houses

815 Landrace X Large White piglets were fattened in each of 5 pig houses of different design. Within each house, data on air temp., humidity and flow rate was combined with data on body weight and temp. of the pigs to produce a "bioclimatic index", B. Although the buildings had similar external climates, their internal microclimates showed differences that were reflected in their B indexes. In a house of the semi-open type, backfat thickness was significantly lower than in the other 4 houses.
