Abstract
In a trial at Lavras, Minas Gerais in 1972, various herbicides, alone or in combination were compared for weed control in maize. Grain yield was directly related to effective weed control, and mean ear wt. was the most important yield component influenced by treatment. Atrazine, atrazine + simazine and simazine controlled broadleaved weeds satisfactorily and gave grain yields similar to that of the hand-weeded control. 2,4-D + MCPA applied alone gave poor weed control and low grain yield. Diuron applied alone decreased seedling emergence.
