The concentrations of phosphine in wheat in steel drums 1.9 m high and 0.6 m in diameter were similar whether generated from aluminium phosphide applied as powder in bags or as pellets (see RAE/A 47, p. 307, etc.), and gas concentrations declined at about the same rate with both formulations. All adults of Cryptolestes ferrugineus (Steph.) and Tribolium castaneum (Hbst.) were killed in both treatments on day 1, during which the gas concentrations exceeded 1600 p.p.m.
