Comparison of two geographic strains of Leishmania donovani by resistance of mice to superinfection

Comparison of two geographic strains of Leishmania donovani by resistance of mice to superinfection

American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene 24(4): 704-706

Mice were inoculated with Burma or Sudan strains of Leishmania donovani. Between days 20 and 30, the liver parasite burdens decreased and after 30 days they were given pentostam which further reduced the amastigote burden. 23 days later they were challenged by intravenous injection of the homologous or heterologous strain. The response was judged by the rate of increase of amastigotes in the spleen and liver.
