Ripening was hastened by spraying the trees with Ethrel and the higher the spray concentration the greater the effect. The recommended concentration was 30 p.p.m. since higher concentrations induced fruit drop and reduced quality; the recommended quantity was 200-250 litres per 10 ares. The best time to spray was between the start of colouring and the yellow-green stage.
