Cytohistological studies on certain male-sterile lines of pearl millet (Pennisetum typhoides S. and H.)



Cytologia 39(3): 585-589



Anthers of the male-sterile lines Tift 23A and 628A and their respective maintainer lines Tift 23B and 628B were used in the studies. Meiosis was normal up to the formation of tetrads in both male-sterile and maintainer lines. Degeneration of microspores in the male-sterile lines occurred soon after their separation from the tetrads.
