Dietary saturated fat and hepatic lipogenesis in the starved-refed rat

Dietary saturated fat and hepatic lipogenesis in the starved-refed rat

Nutrition Reports International 12(5): 305-310

The effects on hepatic glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6PD) activity, malic enzyme (ME) activity and total liver lipids were studied in SPF male Wistar rats, weight 125 to 130 g, which were starved for 2 days and then fed for 3 days on diets with glucose and saturated fat or maize oil in various proportions. The control group had a 5% maize oil and 65% glucose diet freely throughout the 5-day test period.
