Discovery of witchweed (Striga lutea Lour.), a root parasite of corn in Thailand. 2. Studies on witchweed control

Discovery of witchweed (Striga lutea Lour.), a root parasite of corn in Thailand. 2. Studies on witchweed control

Paper presented at Seventh National Corn and Sorghum Reporting Session, Rice Protection Research Center, 1976: 9

The colour of Striga lutea flowers in Thailand is yellow. The plant and the damage it can do to crops are described. Caterpillars of the lepidopteron (Precis orithya ocyale) attacked the plant at the blooming stage but failed to prevent seed set. Post-em. application of 2,4-D at 2 kg/ha affected growth and seed production. Trap cropping is recommended.
