Effect of adding blood serum, albumin and gamma globulins to colostrum for sucking piglets

Effect of adding blood serum, albumin and gamma globulins to colostrum for sucking piglets

Veterinaria Mexico 7(4): 125-133

Four groups of 14 piglets (Yorkshire, Hampshire, Yorkshire X Hampshire) had from birth (1) maternal colostrum only (2) maternal colostrum with 3 ml of an albumin-rich fraction of pig serum (3) maternal colostrum with 3 ml of a gamma -globulin-rich fraction of pig serum (4) maternal colostrum with 3 ml whole pig serum. The serum was prepared from adult pig blood, fractionated as necessary, sterilised and frozen. It was given by mouth. The piglets were kept on the sow until 45 days of age.
