Groups of 6 sows from the 50th day of pregnancy were given a basal ration with Cu 11 mg/kg, without or with CuSO4 to make up Cu 117 or 221 mg/kg.When corrected for litter size, birthweight of piglets from sows given most Cu was significantly less than that from sows given least Cu. Plasma Cu of sows in the last 3 weeks of pregnancy varied widely but tended to be higher in both groups given added Cu. Plasma ceruloplasmin also varied, without significant difference between groups.
