Susceptibility of rice to H. oryzae (Cochliobolus miyabeanus) increased under both high and low N levels in sand culture, more so under the former. Under low N the increase was due to more infections, under high N to an increased number of large spots, i.e. greater lesion expansion. At the same dosage NO3 induced greater susceptibility than NH4. Increased susceptibility due to a decrease in nutrients other than N and P was also suggested.
