Effect of feeding by developing stages of Callosobruchus maculatus (Fab.) and C. chinensis (Linn.) on germination of pulse seeds

The seeds of 7 pulses were infested singly with eggs of Callosobruchus maculatus (F.) or C. chinensis (L.) and germinated at different stages of development of the bruchids. A fall in the percentage germination was observed from 15-25 days in different seeds infested by C. maculatus and 8-13 days for C. chinensis. A marked decline in germination occurred at the middle of larval development, when metabolic activity has been reported to be highest.
