Effect of folate deficiency of the intestinal mucosa on jejunal transport in the rat

Marker perfusion was used to examine in vivo the jejunal transport of water, Na, xylose, glucose, and L-leucine in weanling rats deprived of folacin. Supplementation of the normal diet with sulpha did not produce folacin deficiency of the intestinal mucosa, but it was associated with a moderate reduction in water absorption which was attributed to caecal enlargement.
