Effect of lupin grain supplementation on ovulation rate and plasma follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) concentration in maiden and mature Merino ewes

A lupin grain supplement, 0.5 kg/ewe day, was given to half of a flock of 184 maiden and 225 mature ewes from 14 days before introduction of rams until 12 days after mating. Half of the group with the supplement and half of those without it grazed on irrigated perennial pasture and the remaining ewes were fed on hay on bare fallow. There was a significantly greater ovulation rate of supplemented groups than of unsupplemented.
