One basal diet was of chopped whole sugar cane with a solution of urea 180, (NH4)2SO4 50 g and water 770 g, 50 ml/kg cane. The other was of final molasses 925, urea 25 and water 50 g given freely, with chopped cane tops 2% and fresh bagasse at 0.5% of bodyweight. In a 2 X 2 X 2 factorial trial for 70 days 48 Brahman bullocks of about 200 kg got basal diets with no meat meal or 600 g, no fresh cassava roots chopped and sun-dried or 1000 g or no groundnut oil or 30 g daily.
