Effect of milk substitute on the growth of lambs

Bulletin Technique, Centre de Recherches Zootechniques et Veterinaires de Theix (23): 41-42

Pairs of twin lambs, one of them reared on milk substitute from the first day of life and the other by the dam, were studied. Several strains were represented and there were 123 pairs in all. Males reared artificially had an average birthweight of 3.70 kg and an average daily gain between 10 and 30 days of age of 259 g and between 30 and 70 days of 312 g; males reared by the dam weighed 3.76 kg and their daily gains over the 2 periods were 270 and 315 g/day, respectively.
