When Ajeba 210, Kenya Gular and Mexipak were planted on five dates in a split-plot design during 1971-72 and 1972-73, they differed significantly in germination percentage, number of tillers and plant height at the end of the vegetative period and at maturity. Earlier seeding dates showed higher germination percentages whereas later sowing (9 December) decreased the germination percentage. Ajeba 210 had the highest number of tillers.
