Trials in various parts of France in 1975-76 and 1976-77, to determine the response of hard wheat to various herbicides, suffered from the effects of abnormal weather conditions. However, tri-allate at 2 kg/ha, metoxuron + chlortoluron at 2.12 + 1.08 kg/ha and nitrofen at 2.4 kg/ha were all selective pre-em. even at double the above rates; nitrofen caused some injury at the double rate if the wheat seeds were not covered with 2 to 3 cm of soil.
