Effect of stocking rate, breed, grain supplementation, nitrogen fertilizer level and anthelmintic treatment on growth rate of dairy weaners grazing irrigated pangola grass

, : Effect of stocking rate, breed, grain supplementation, nitrogen fertilizer level and anthelmintic treatment on growth rate of dairy weaners grazing irrigated pangola grass. Proceedings of the Australian Society of Animal Production 11: 449-452

Friesian and Jersey heifers in the first year and Sahiwal X Friesian and Sahiwal X Jersey in the 2nd had, at stocking rates 7.4, 9.9 and 12.4/ha, average growth rates of 0.50, 0.43, 0.37 and 0.62, 0.56, 0.51 kg/day, respectively. Each heifer got 1.4 kg maize daily in the 2nd year. Anthelmintic treatment had no significant effect. Friesians grew faster than Jerseys but the difference between crossbreds was not significant.

Annual liveweight gain of steers grazing flood-irrigated, fertilised pangola grass in the Ord valley, Western Australia, was modelled as a function of nitrogen rate (90-350 kg/ha) and stocking rate (5.2-12.6 steers/ha). Steer gains decreased linea...
