Effect of supplementation with Lactobacillus acidophilus (Moro) on intestinal microflora of weaned piglets

A test group of piglets received fodder mixed with a freeze-dried L. acidophilus culture (3 X 108 live cells/animal daily) for 5 days after weaning, while a control group was given fodder mixed with a chemotherapeutic product normally used on the farm. Microbiological analysis of faecal samples revealed no significant difference between groups. In a 2nd trial, samples of intestinal contents from piglets slaughtered 6 and 50 days after the start of L. acidophilus supplementation were analysed.
