Effect of treating immature stages of the American bollworm Heliothis armigera Hbn. with juvenile hormone analogue, R-20458 on adult fertility

Effect of treating immature stages of the American bollworm Heliothis armigera Hbn. with juvenile hormone analogue, R-20458 on adult fertility

Zeitschrift fur Angewandte Entomologie 81(1): 75-78

The juvenile hormone analogue R-20458 ((E)-3-(5-4-ethylphenoxy)-3-methyl-3-pentenyl)-2,2-dimethyloxirane) was applied topically at a dose of 1 mu g to sixth-instar larvae, prepupae and pupae two days old of Heliothis armigera (Hb.). The adults derived from treated immature stages were allowed to mate with treated and untreated adults, and mating success was determined from examination of the bursa copulatrix in females for the presence of spermatophores.
