Effect of treatment with Eriochrom black on the reduction of natural fluorescence in fluorescence serological studies of anthrax spores

Effect of treatment with Eriochrom black on the reduction of natural fluorescence in fluorescence serological studies of anthrax spores

Zentralblatt fur Veterinarmedizin 24B(7): 517-521

Spore suspensions of 39 strains of Bacillus (20 species) were fixed in acetone and examined under a fluorescence microscope. The natural fluorescence of all except 8 strains was so bright that it could cause false-positive reactions in the fluorescent antibody technique. After treatment with a 3% Eriochrom black solution for 10 minutes at 80 deg C, the natural fluorescence of spores disappeared in most cases.
