Effect of truncal vagotomy on gastroduodenal content of gastrin

Effect of truncal vagotomy on gastroduodenal content of gastrin

British Journal of Surgery 64(1): 34-38

In duodenal ulcer patients total gastrin was estimated in endoscopic biopsy samples which were also fractionated for measurements of gastrin components before and after total vagotomy. Antral concentration of gastrin was 17.0 plus or minus 2.0 mu g/g mucosa (mean plus or minus s.e.mean) in 52 patients before operation compared with 25.2 plus or minus 3.2 mu g in 32 vagotomized patients.
