Effect of type of ration on the composition of the digesta along the alimentary tract of the rabbit

For 2 weeks male Bouscat rabbits aged 3 months in 3 groups of 4 had concentrate with wheat straw, ground rice hulls or berseem hay freely. Mean daily intakes were of concentrate 65, 100 and 70 g with roughage 35, almost none and 65 g. In a 2nd trial 4 rabbits had concentrate and berseem, and the main retention time of digesta was studied. All groups had a lower proportion of DM in digesta from the proximal part of small intestine than from stomach, the effect being least with straw.
