Effect of urea on essential amino acid contents in maize silage

Urea 0.4% was added to chopped maize ensiled 144 days in a silage stack of 35 X 12 X 6.5 m. Total and non-protein N and 11 amino acids were estimated, relative to dry matter or to protein. Added urea had no affect on content of protein N in silage, nor did it affect growth of microorganisms used in estimation of amino acids.
