Effect of various concentrations of protein in chick diet upon the metabolic enzymes of glycine and serine



Poultry Science 54(5): 1461-1467



In chicks the effect was studied of low-protein diets with and without 2% glycine or 2% L-serine on the enzymes concerned in the metabolism of glycine and serine. The activities of D-3-phosphoglycerate dehydrogenase, phosphoserine phosphatase and serine hydroxymethyltransferase were significantly greater in livers from chicks on 75% protein diets than those from chicks on either 24% chick starter or diet with 2 or 25% protein.
