Effect of vitamin D on serum cholesterol and arterial blood pressure in infants

Effect of vitamin D on serum cholesterol and arterial blood pressure in infants

Nutrition and Metabolism 18(2): 57-61

Vitamin D 3000, 6000 or 12 000 IU by mouth daily for at least a month or 300 000 IU by muscle as a single dose was given to 91 children with rickets, all but 3 of whom were less than 2 years old. Compared with values before treatment, serum free and esterified cholesterol increased, significantly in all but the group given 3000 IU; the mean rise in esterified cholesterol exceeded that in free cholesterol.
