Effect of waterlogging on growth and yield components in rice

In the wet season of 1971, 35-day-old seedlings of rice IR8, Jagannath, Manoharsali, T 141, NC 1281 and Prasadbhog were waterlogged during the tillering stage with stagnant water to 30 cm. In all except NC 1281 paddy yield was reduced by 16-32% when compared with the unflooded control, mostly due to a reduction in the number of panicles/unit area. Waterlogging also decreased LAI, N uptake and total DM.
